Individual Plan of Study

IPS Scope & Sequence by Grade Level

Individual Plan of Study, or IPS, is rolled out over the course of the student’s middle and high school career. To see more of what we do, select one of the dropdowns below.

  • Career Research Image

The freshman curriculum is designed to guide students in identifying and narrowing potential career paths that align with their individual interests. This course has two primary focuses:

    • Self-Exploration and Skill Identification: Students will participate in assessments such as interest profilers and personality tests to gain insights into their personal interests and strengths. Based on these findings, they will explore careers that leverage these attributes.
    • In-Depth Career Research and Presentation: Students will select three prospective careers for thorough investigation. This process involves a detailed examination of each career's demands, opportunities, and daily realities to assess personal compatibility. The unit culminates with students presenting their research findings to their peers.

  • Future Focus Image

Sophomores will embark on a comprehensive exploration of post-secondary opportunities. This course facilitates research into various paths, such as 4-year colleges and universities, 2-year community colleges, trade and technical schools, apprenticeships, volunteer service, military enlistment, and direct employment. Students will produce three significant projects during the academic year:

    • Post-Secondary Institution Research & Presentation: Each student will research two institutions (e.g., colleges, trade schools) that align with their personal interests and career aspirations. They will present their findings to their peers, followed by a reflection on the suitability of these options for their future.
    • Brag Sheet Development: Students will learn the purpose and components of an effective brag sheet. They will then create their own and understand the importance of maintaining its currency.
    • Professional Resume Creation: Utilizing information compiled for their brag sheets, students will develop a professional resume. A panel of local employers will review the completed resumes, and the top three will be selected for special recognition and display within the school.
